Best Places to Eat and Drink in Bozeman, Montana

Updated: Dec 13, 2022

For those of you that don't know, I have lived in Bozeman for the past 4 years for college. In my time here, I have spent WAY more money than I would like to admit on food so I don't have to cook or, when I was a freshman, eat at the dining hall for the 15th time that week. So, I have compiled my favorite places to eat in Bozeman and my favorite places to go out for a drink with my friends, or by myself! Enjoy!

Eats:

Stuffed Crepes and Waffles

I am obsessed with this cute restaurant that is nestled downtown on Main Street. It is perfect for everyone because they don't only have sweet options, but also savory for those who don't like to have their entire sugar intake for the day first thing in the morning. Your gluten-free friends can tag along and eat with you as well! They offer gluten-free waffles and crepes, which allow everyone to eat something amazing. My personal favorite? The Brittany with strawberries and Nutella as a crepe. If you want to browse their menu, click here!

Five on Black

I know this isn't a place that is strictly in Bozeman, but I love it and I think, if you have the chance, you should stop and grab a bowl of delicious Brazilian style street food. Not only is it quick, it is also a healthy alternative to fast food. The idea is similar to Chipotle in the way that you build your own bowl, but trust me, it's even better. The best part about this restaurant, for me, is that it has started to expand from its first location in Missoula to other towns around the state. If you stop here, get a dozen pao de queijo because, if you're like me, you won't be able to stop at one!

Montana Ale Works

If you are looking for a great place for dinner, look no further and grab a local brew and delicious steak. Montana Ale Works is more pricey than other restaurants, but so worth it. Some nights there may be a wait, but you can add yourself to the waitlist through their website, so you don't have to wait in the building for a long time if there is a wait. They don't only have food, but also beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits as well.

Nina's Tacos and Tequila

Okay, my favorite after-work stop for fresh tortilla chips, delicious margaritas, and a ginormous burrito that feeds me for two meals. This adorable, up-beat restaurant is on Mendenhall St. right across from the Armory hotel. Me and my co-workers stop here at least twice a month to hang out, drink, and eat amazing food for a good price. They have an amazing array of tequila to choose from, so there is something for everyone. My personal favorite is the tarantula reposado tequila in their red berry margarita. If you like your margaritas frozen, they'll add in a scoop of shave ice for your enjoyment! If you aren't from Montana, you HAVE to get their huckleberry margarita. It's delicious and made with real huckleberries, not the fake syrup!

Nova Cafe

The Nova Cafe is a great place to stop for breakfast or brunch. They have a very interesting menu, but I have never had anything I didn't like! They also have an espresso bar if you just want to stop in for an espresso while you walk around downtown. They also feature locally and regionally sourced products whenever they are able, so you are not only supporting a Montana restaurant, but also Montana ranchers and farmers!

Rice Fine Thai Cuisine

Do you love thai food? If the answer is yes, you have to stop at Rice while you are here. They have an amazing pad thai, my personal favorite, and a fun atmosphere! If you aren't feeling eating in the restaurant, you can get takeout as well. Going to rice for lunch is the best because they have great lunch specials for an affordable price!

Sidewinders

I could go on and on about my favorite restaurants around Bozeman, but I am going to end with Sidewinders American Grill. Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Sidewinders has a super fun atmosphere, a full bar, and food for every taste. My mother and I love the french dip and we have to go every time she visits to grab one. I also love the "S" Pretzel, where you can customize what they stuff the pretzel with! It is absolutely delicious. They also have a waitlist you can add yourself to on their website so you aren't waiting outside or in the restaurant for a table to open up. If you visit in the summer or spring, you can also sit out on the patio.

Drinks:

Bridger Brewing

An upbeat brewery with amazing beer and pizza is in your future if you visit Bridger Brewing. Located very close to the University, this place is hopping after football games end at the stadium, so if you are visiting on one of those days, make sure to show up early to snag a table!

The Hop Lounge

Recently opened in the Barn District off of Huffine, the Hop Lounge is the perfect laid-back space for those who want to try a lot of different Montana brews in one place. At any given time, the Hop Lounge has at least 50 different brews to choose from, ranging from an IPA to a sour to a cider. They also have food, but everything on the menu is based off of rotisserie chicken. In my opinion, they have the best french fries in the Gallatin Valley. Don't take my word for it, go and give them a try!

The Daily Coffee & Eatery

Become a dalien and grab a coffee at the Daily Coffee & Eatery. Their coffees are amazing with two different espresso roasts to choose from and the food is also a must try. They also have gluten free pastry options, which was a huge hit with my best friend who is gluten free.

Steep Mountain Teahouse Need a break from breweries and coffee shops? Me either. BUT, if you are feeling more cravings for an iced or hot tea, stop at Steep Mountain Teahouse (previously Townsend Teahouse) at the East end of the Downtown Bozeman strip. They have an impressive list of teas to choose from and they make it for you as it is ordered! It is a hot-spot for students studying or people working remotely as well.

Wild Joe*s Coffee Spot

The last place I am going to leave you with is Wild Joe*s Coffee Spot. Located close to Stuffed Crepes and Waffles, I tend to grab a crepe and then run down to Joe*s for an iced white mocha. This location is also very popular with students who are studying or friends who are catching up with a coffee date. They also have monthly art installations of local artists that you can peruse!

I could go on and on about the amazing places to eat and drink in Bozeman, but I am not going to! I hope this list helps you find your new favorite place. If you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comments! I would love to do another Bozeman eateries and bars in the future! Eat on.
